Netflix Original Series You Need to Watch

I have a lot of favorite TV shows including Netflix series. Netflix allows you to watch a wide variety of shows and movies from all types of genres. One of the nice things about Netflix is their original series and movies. A lot of their original content is well made and spectacular. However, some series don’t get the spotlight they deserve. In today’s blog post, I’m going to briefly list some of my favorite Netflix Originals that people should watch.

5. Dear White People

Based on the 2014 movie that came out, Dear White People is a show about how students of color navigate various forms of racism and discrimination at an Ivy League PWI (Predominately White Institution). Follow each student’s narrative as they find different ways to adapt and interact with the rest of the university. Dear White People is a great show to watch because it sheds some light on a lot of problems that many students of color face when they attend a PWI, such as trying to find one’s own identity, their culture, or how to handle racial issues and discrimination.

4. Marco Polo

Watch as Marco is forced to learn how to stay alive in a strange new world and learn the cultural norms of the Mongols in order to survive, as he experiences the dynamic world East Asia.

3. The Get Down

The Get Down is set during the late 1970s in New York City, where bankruptcy is a huge problem in the city.  As a result, a lot of neighborhoods are run down and filled with crime. Follow a group of friends, who reside in the Bronx, as they do their best to navigate the streets, while discovering their passion for music to use as an escape from their harsh realities. The Get Down is an amazing show with great visuals, storytelling, and catchy music.

2. Sense8

Sense8 is a compelling show that celebrates diversity, unity, and passion. Without revealing to much, the show is about a group of eight people who are located in different parts of the world, but one day, something happens to them and they are able to communicate telepathically with each other and experience what everyone else in their group or “cluster” experience. However, an evil organization is hunting clusters like the main eight characters and are exploiting their abilities to hunt down others like them. Overall, the story, visual aesthetics, and tone of the series is amazing.
